Giethoorn is a quiet sleepy town known as “Venice of the North." It is a village located in Overijssel, a Dutch province in the Netherlands. Giethoorn was founded in the 13th century and became a part of Brederwiede in 1973. It is named after Venice due to the presence of many water canals. You can hire boats to traverse the various canals. In the old part of Giethoorn, you can bike along the cycling path. There are very few places to eat and drink here as it is a very small place.

Stedelijk Museum Zwolle

The Stedelijk Museum Zwolle consists of an old as well new wing. The new wing was built in 1997 with a glass staircase, a café and a room where people can hold exhibitions. The older wing displays the collection of paintings held by the museum. The history of Overijssel and its capital city Zwolle can be seen in the various displays.

Ecodrome Zwolle

While you are at Ecodrome Zwolle, you can enjoy the natural history museum and the amusement park. The park has sections for penguins and birds and offers an underwater view to its visitors. Some of the sections of the park are based on countries and continents such as America and Asia.

Glasmuseum

This museum is built of glass and those who are fascinated by the history of glass, its technology and its products will love to visit this place. The museum has 10,000 objects on display for its visitors. Due to an ongoing renovation, the Glasmuseum has been closed and will reopen for visitors in the summer of 2010.

National Park of Dwingelderveld

Planetron has a famous National Park named Dwingelderveld. Planetron is commonly called ‘Planetron Cinedome’ and is situated very close to the famous village of Dwingeloo. The park is full of buildings of various shapes which are a special attraction for international tourists. The park also organizes star-viewing shows during the nights. It has the largest projection screen in the country.

Corn Mill De Zwaluw

Corn Mill De Zwaluw was built in 1715 and is commonly called Stellingmolen. The Mill is based in Hoogeveen. The mill is about 35 meters high. As a result, its size is the main attraction of the mill. It is so big that the blades of the fan extend over the roofs of the houses in the area.
