Shopping in Giethoorn

Edit This

Giethoorn Shopping doesn’t mean that you have to go into the most expensive shops, nor does it mean you have to spend hours walking along the streets. A big part of shopping while on vacation is slowly strolling through the vast city streets that house all sorts of interesting little shops. In the city of Giethoorn, you are going to find numerous shops located along the river, which means you can go boating and shopping at the same time--just make sure you tie up your boat when you get out or you might come to find that it floated away.

Waterfront

If you are out on the river in a boat, you can stop in along the many shops that line the waterfront. Along the waterfront, you will be able to find a variety of shops, including restaurants and pottery shops. During the hot summer months, while out on the water kids enjoy stopping the boat to grab some ice cream, just make sure somebody stays behind with the boat.

Rhoda Pottery

Inside this cute little shop, you can spend as much or as little as you want on various pieces of art. Inside the shop, you will find various ceramic pieces that were made on location, but you can also find other art pieces, including paintings. If you have some extra time be sure to stay and see how it is that ceramics are made.

Gloria Maris

The majority of the items that you will find inside this shop are made from shells. One of the most popular things to purchase is a storage box that is made out of shells. You can also purchase jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets and earrings all made from shells.

Museum de Oude Aarde

If you enjoy collecting gemstones, fossils, or other types of rocks, you must stop into the shop at this museum; you can even find great souvenirs for a rock collector back home. In the shop you will find balls of lava that have cooled that can be cut open, and inside the balls of lava you will find different types of crystals that have formed.

Main Supermarket

Giethoorn does not have many shops or cafes; there is only 1 supermarket and it also serves as the post office. Aside from the normal groceries that you can find in most other supermarkets you can also find other trinkets to take back home with you to remind you of your time in this tiny village.
