Eating Out in Eindhoven
Edit This
Eindhoven boasts of a truly international dining identity, with a constant influx of tourists regularly influencing the tastes and menus. For travelers wanting to dig into staple, local fare, there are enough Dutch items and other timeless regional specialties to go around. The Eindhoven eating out guide offers visitors comprehensive information on the dining scene in this classic Netherlands tourist hotspot.
Major Food Hubs
The entertainment district of Het Stratumseind is jam-packed with restaurants and several other dining out options. There are more than 35 eateries including a few bars and bustling cafes, most of which stand beside each other in the old quarter of the region. This concentrated dining stretch is also where tourists can lay their hands of the most scrumptious local delicacies like ‘stamppotten’- a kind of stew, ‘kraut’ - smoked sausage, 'gehaktballen', which are spicy meatballs and ‘kroketten’ - croquettes. There are several restaurants near the Markt or Market Square in the heart of Eindhiven. Most of these eateries are summer hotspots, where tourists chill out on charming terrace cafes. Other areas where visitors can eat are, Stationsplein - the street opposite Eindhoven Central Station and Wilhelminaplein.
De Karseboom
De Karseboom is one of the most famous restaurants in Eindhoven. Unfortunately, this restaurant does not accept reservations and visitors might have to wait for hours to get a table here. Located at Grote Berg 10, the eatery serves exclusive courses at moderate prices. De Karseboom is minimalist in its ambiance and interiors, but serves delicious international fusion cuisine. One of the reasons for their huge popularity is that they use the freshest, hand-picked ingredients in all their dishes and the service is friendly, if not prompt. You may have to wait for a while until your order is served, but the crossword puzzle and cryptograms on the placemats are enough to keep you busy.
Berlage
This is a nice, trendy and inexpensive eating joint that is frequented more by the younger crowd in the evenings. Nestled at Kleine Berg 16, Berlage serves good local cuisine in a hip, informal setting. The service is remarkably efficient and prompt, and there are some special stand-up comedy performances on Monday evenings.
La Clinique
This classic theatre restaurant at Grote Berg 12 is compact, cosy and comfortably furnished with a bar in the front section and a restaurant at the back. There a few are open-air dining tables as well. Visitors can feast on everything from Spanish-Mexican delights to T-bone steaks, along with the tastiest desserts in town. The exotic interiors are complete with quirky lampshades and fine wooden seats.
Yamas
Yamas is the place to head to if you don’t want to restrict your outing to just eating and drinking. The Kleine Berg located restaurant, besides serving delicious Greek cuisine, also offers painstaking details on several regions in Greece and the food products associated with them. The furnishings are extremely original and tasteful, and visitors can lay their hands on some tasty Greek salads here.
Eindhoven has transformed into a melting pot of varied cuisines from other parts of Europe and also features a few eateries serving classic American, Mexican and Oriental fare.
