Day Trips in Eindhoven
Edit ThisEindhoven is surrounded by cities with popular tourist destinations. Amsterdam, which is just 78 miles away from the city, is one of the premier tourist hotspots in the country. Historic buildings, parks, museums and other recreational sites in Tilburg, Antwerp and Breda are just a few hours away from Eindhoven. The Eindhoven day trips guide lists a few ideas that make quick, enjoyable getaways from Eindhoven.
The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam
This is the largest museum in the country, and is 1-2 hours away from Eindhoven. The museum was inaugurated in 1800 in The Hague and was relocated to Amsterdam in 1808. Today, the Rijksmuseum accommodates around a million visitors every year. Its rich collection ranges from Golden Age masterpieces to Asian art.
Groenplaats, Antwerp
The historic public square on the Belgian border lies 95 km to the southwest of Eindhoven. The site is popular for its antique structures and public art. The famous statue of Ruben by Willem Geefs forms the centerpiece of Groenplaats. There is also the Cathedral of Our Lady; a Catholic church that dates back to the 16 th century. The church displays numerous paintings by celebrated artists like Peter Paul Rubens, Otto van Veen, Marten de Vos and Jacob de Backer.
The Beekse Bergen Safari Park
The park lies between Tilburg and Hilvarenbeek in Noord-Brabant and just 30 minutes away from the airport of Eindhoven. The multi-themed animal park consists of African, Asian, European and Australian wildlife. With 1,500 animals under its roof, Beekse Bergek is considered the largest animal park in Benelux. Visitors are overwhelmed by flocks of giraffes, zebras, lions, elephants and rhinos.
You can navigate the park by bus, car or boat, and the very adventurous can even drive between animals. There are car routes throughout the park, but deep areas can only be reached on foot, bus or boat.
Grote Kerk, Breda
Situated 41 kilometers from Eindhoven is Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk/Church of Our Lady, a Brabantine Gothic building that dates back to the 15 th century. Standing 97 meters high, Grote Kerk is ranked among the highest church towers in the country.
The church is known for the Renaissance tomb of Count Engelbrecht II and his spouse, Cimburga of Baden. The alabaster masterpiece at the Prince Chapel can be attributed to either Tommaso Vincitore, the architect behind the Breda Castle, or Pietro Torrigiani of Florence. There are other tombs along the ambulatory like the monument of Count Engelbrecht I and his son, John of Nassau.
With numerous tourist hotspots adjacent to Eindhoven, urban travelers can make the most of their Dutch trip as they wander from city to city.
