Family Travel Ideas in Breda
Edit ThisThis Breda family travel guide will help you plan and enjoy a nice family vacation. Breda is the charming Noord-Brebant town just an hour or so from Amsterdam. This is a great place for a family vacation. It has a wholesome atmosphere and plenty of activities in store for everyone. The streets are easy to navigate, and there is a great mix of modern buildings coupled with historic structures such as their Gothic Cathedral and plenty of museums.
Bike with the Family
Breda is a great place to conquer by biking. It has easy bike lanes and is relatively small enough to see by pedaling. One can rent bikes at the Central Station or at the City bus station. Walking is another method. This way, the family can see the whole city together, while chatting the day away side by side.
Visit Breda’s Distinguished Castles
Although Breda’s castles have been poorly maintained in the past, the resurgence of tourism has made these castles great attractions for many day trippers and foreigners. The kids will surely enjoy a blast to the Medieval past via Breda Castle, Gathuispoort (remains of Medieval town gates), Ginneken ( a Medieval village which houses the Bouvigne Castle) and Spanjaardsgat (a Watergate which was seen to be the waterloo of the Breda defense) .
Attend Some Festivals Together
Breda is home to some of the most fun festivals--from music festivals, such as the Old-Style Jazz Festival in May, to the somewhat quirky Red Hair Festival, which as its name implies, is a festival of people with red hair. Take the kids on a weekend out and attend some of the activities together. Check also the schedule for the carnival which passes town.
Take Educational Excursions
When it comes to museums, Breda does not disappoint its visitors. There are, in fact, about 14 distinguished museums in the area with subjects as varied as history to graphic design. Depending on what the family’s interests are, head on to the local museum such as the Graphic Design Museum, NAC Museum, General Maczek Museum and Breda Museum.
Dine in Breda’s Outdoor Restaurants
For this to be fully appreciated, one must check the weather when deciding to eat out in Breda. Nevertheless, eating in their many outdoor patios will be an authentic experience for the kids and even for adults. There are plenty of themed cuisines to choose from, such as Popocatepetl, a quaint Mexican restaurant, or the Sultan Lounge with a Turkish feel and great outdoor seating.
