Top 5 Must Do's in Amsterdam
Edit ThisAmsterdam is one of the most popular destination for tourists in the world, and for good reason. The architecture, the people, the sites, and even some of the more debatable policies have hit home with travelers of all kinds. Before you leave Amsterdam, these are the 5 things that should be top priorities.
1. Van Gogh Museum
For around $18, you can view the largest collection of Van Gogh paintings in the world. There
is a permanent collection and alternating exhibitions that are either
from the same time period of Van Gogh (so you can compare and contrast),
or from artists that intrigued Van Gogh himself. In
this ultra-modern museum, you can take a guided tour, an audio tour, or
stroll along on your own. A café and souvenir shop are also located in
the building.
2. Heineken Brewery
Learn all about the famous Dutch Heineken
beer at the Heineken Brewery. You will learn all of what there is to
know about Heineken by seeing all of the advertisements from the past
140 years, get history lessons on what it's taken to stay successful
for so long, taste the different types of Heineken and even go on a
ride that shows you what it's like to be brewed! Ticket price is $21,
and for an extra fee, you can make a personalized bottle of Heineken.
3. Coffee shops
It is no doubt that the marijuana "laws" in Amsterdam have been debated amongst all kinds, but it is still an experience to be had for those over 18 years old. A more comfortable coffee shop is The Bull Dog. With dark interior and antique decor, you can sit back and sip on some fresh-squeezed orange juice, or whatever else it is you prefer.
4. Melkweg
One of the most popular clubs in Europe is located
in Amsterdam called Melkweg. It boasts supreme character through arts
of every sort, from music to film. Tickets vary in price. To see what
is on the agenda, visit www.melkweg.nl.
5. Red Light District
Now, this attraction is not for just anyone. Many illegalities in other countries are tolerated in Amsterdam, including prostitution. Just because you walk through the Red Light District does not mean that you need to use any services offered, but it is most definitely a sight to see. Tourists of all kinds walk this area just to get a glimpse of what it is like to be in a city based on such tolerance.
