Amsterdam (Eyewitness Travel Guide)
Edit This
Planning an
adventure in Amsterdam becomes exciting and tangible when using this
picture packed travel guide.
This entertaining and visually impressive travel guide reads like a coffee table book, with tons of pictures, captions, quick facts and interesting tidbits of information. It points out landmarks along side historical information, such as a page in the history section that offers a picture of Amsterdam’s Seal, a labeled cutaway sketch of a medieval style house, a brief explanation of brewing history and locations and photographs of medieval style homes that are still standing.
This guide is set up in an easy to read format that groups information together for easy reference. Starting with several chapters devoted to the history and culture of Amsterdam, the book provides a great basis for further exploration. It breaks Amsterdam down into sections, giving pictures and recommendations for each of the sectors. The second section, titled, “Travelers’ Needs,” offers details on shops, cafes, restaurants, museums, hotels, bars and markets. A third section, titled, “Survival Guide,” offers tips and practical information including transportation, customs, and customs. A brief phrase book and street finder is also included.
The maps provided are relatively comprehensive and easy to transport since the book measures only 8.6 x 4.9 inches. However, larger, more detailed maps may be preferred by tourists, especially those visiting Amsterdam for the first time. This guidebook was revised and updated in 2007, so most of the information should be accurate. However, it’s a good idea to check with local agencies to verify hours and rates as they may have changed.
