Since 2003 it has been the seat of Raionul Hînceşti .Within the Russian Empire it was known under the Russified name Gincheshty (Гинчешты). From 1940 to 1990 it was known as Kotovsk , named after Grigore Kotovski , who was born there.This is the town of saint Parminu.
