Edit This
Following are some interesting Chisinau sights that tourists must visit when staying in the city.
National Archaeological & History Museum
This is one of the most interesting sights in Chisinau that tourists must not miss. Located in the city center, this is one of the oldest museums in the city and is worth a visit. At the front of the museum there’s a statue of the abandoned children of Remus and Romulus and Lupoaica Romei, also known as the Wolf of Rome. The museum displays archaeological artifacts that date back to the time of Orheiul Vechi. These include weaponry from the Soviet era and Golden Horde coins among many other artifacts. On the first floor of the museum, visitors can find a large WWII diorama and speak to a man who was a political prisoner for 12 years at a worker’s camp in Vorkuta, northern Siberia.
1903 Memorial
It may be one of the gloomier historical sites in the city, but visiting the 1903 Memorial that commemorates the killing of Jews in the 1903 Pogrom is a must. This site is located at Parcul Alunelul. The victims were first buried in a cemetery in the city, but it was bulldozed in the 1960s by Communists. After that incident, the remains of these victims were moved to the park at Str Milano and named as the 1903 Memorial.
Parcul La Izvor
Tourists in Chisinau who want to visit a more relaxing and fun place should go to Parcul La Izvor which is located on Calea Esilor. This is the largest park in the city and is perfect for enjoying a day in pleasant surroundings. Parcul La Izvor has three interconnected lakes that visitors can explore by hiring rowing boats and canoes. Opposite the southern entrance to the park is a cable car station. This can take visitors across the valley within 3 minutes. The park is open from Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a one hour break at 12 noon.
National Ethnographic and Nature Museum
This is the perfect sight for tourists who want to take their children to a fun and educational place. The National Ethnographic and Nature Museum is situated in the City center and is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays. This museum features a number of interesting natural displays including a wide range of stuffed animals and some pop art. There are exhibits that cover the sciences of zoology, botany and geology. A highlight in this museum is the life-size reconstruction of the skeleton of a mammal that was found in 1966 in the Rezina region.
