One of the most important museums in Chisinau is the National History Museum which houses over 165,000 pieces. It is located in the center of the capital which makes it easily accessible. This relatively young museum, established in 1989, is situated inside the first men’s Regional Lyceum in Bessarabia. There are 10 exhibition halls. One of the halls contains dioramas while 3 halls feature domes. You will find that most of the pieces displayed in the museum are considered as national heritage of the country. This museum was established in 1889 under a different name and in a different location. Over the years, the museum saw several changes, including the location and name, but the main focus remained on the research about Bessarabia’s nature and culture. In 1905, the building where the museum is now situated was completed. The National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History is divided into 2 parts: the flora and fauna of the country and the people living in it. You will find several artifacts in the museum including entomological, zoological and archeological finds. Another feature of the museum is its botanical garden, which was established in 1906.
