Many Different Ways of Getting to Chisinau

It is good to know that when you are planning a trip to Chisinau, getting there is possible through many different ways. Here are more details on them.

By Rail

Chisinau has a huge modern railway station located less than 2km away from the city center. It is very clean and safe, and serves many international routes. Direct connections exist to Bucharest, Minsk, Kiev, Moscow, Varna, Samara and Saint Petersburg, so there are trains coming from literally whole Europe. However, traffic from Ukraine is problematic, as the train passes through the Transnistria republic, which is sometimes hostile to Moldova and doesn’t let the trains pass through. Thus, if you’re coming from Ukraine, you will need to choose another form of transport instead.

By Air

It is possible to arrive at Chisinau by air. The Chisinau International Airport is located in the outskirts of the city, about 14km south of the Chisinau center. It is the main international airport of Moldova, serving over 800,000 passengers per year, although its capacity allows it to handle more than 5 million. 14 airlines have flights to this destination, coming from almost all European countries, as well as from Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Most passengers come from the Moscow, Istanbul and Verona routes.

By Bus

Buses are a popular way for getting to Chisinau. The main bus station is located right in the center of the city, but a major disadvantage is that it doesn’t serve many international routes. Most buses coming here are regional and the majority of the international buses come from Romania (Brasov and Bucharest), Ukraine (Odessa), and Germany. Keep in mind that some of the buses from Odessa stop at the northern bus station instead of at the main one, and it is located a bit further away from the center of Chisinau.

By Car

If you choose to travel to Chisinau using your own car, it’s good to follow some basic rules, in order to avoid unnecessary troubles with the local authorities. First of all, obey the speed limits. You shouldn’t drive faster than 90 km/h between the cities and faster than 60 km/h within the city limits. You should also always wear your seatbelt. Make sure that your driving license is internationally valid. It is advisable that the car documents and car insurance policies are with your name written on them, but if you’re not the owner of the car and the owner isn’t traveling with you, at all costs get a letter of attorney prior to even entering Moldova.
