Festivals in Chisinau
Edit ThisMany Chisinau Festivals celebrate Moldova's, culture, and accomplishments. Many attractions exist, but there are some festivals that especially stand out. Driving tourism in the country are efforts showcasing local life and customs from this former enclave of the Turkish Empire during medieval times, and the fluctuation between the former USSR and Romania through World Wars I and II. In 1991, Moldova officially became an independent nation with the dismantling of the former USSR. The series of festivals that are run in Chisinau represent the best of the past, while simultaneously embracing the best of the present.
Independence Day & "Limba Noastra"
This is one of the best of Chisinau Festivals that incorporate a spirit of celebration through fireworks and attention-grabbing activities. This series of street festivals is recognized August 27 to August 31, honoring the official date of independence from the USSR, and the primary role of the Moldovan language, both in 1991. Patriotically adorned memorabilia can be found draping buildings and shops.
International Ethno-Jazz Festival in Chisinau
Consistent with local impacts on collective national identity, this festival emerged in 2002 as the brainchild of Chisinau’s own Trigon, an eclectic Jazz ensemble. The event has remained an annual staple of the festival circuit, commemorated in September. Different bands play in this festival. Through initiatives including workshops, community assistance drives, and artistic exhibits, the contemporary jazz scene is ever-expanding.
National Wine Festival
The celebration takes up a whole week, beginning October 10 of each year. It celebrates the end of wine fermentation. This takes place in downtown Chasinau, where wine growers show off their best wine each year.
