Beaches

Edit This
The Sea is very important to Lithuanians. Every Lithuanian respects the Sea.

The Baltic Sea actually is very very beautiful. Sandy beaches are guaranteed. In most summer months -- big waves too. Although, wind surfing it's very popular in Lithuania. If you'd like to surf, you probably should bring your own equipment. The beach is about 50 meters wide. Behind the beach, there's everywhere a small dune which was made by humans in order to protect themselves and the forest behind from the furious sea storm which are quite frequent especially in winter and autumn.

Be aware, that there are always two and sometimes even three types of beaches in Nida and whole Neringa. That is a public beach where everyone is welcome anytime and there are 'Women Only' beaches. That means that men are not welcome and not allowed in there. Also you might find a 'Men Only' beach. There is one in Smiltyne, I think. Also there's one beach for nudists, if I remember it correctly. That's far to the east near the border line with Kaliningrad District.

These beaches are always signed with specific signs.

So you have to be attentive and look which type of beach you are going to.
