Day Trips in Verona

Edit This
The hills surrounding Verona as a semicircle are called by the Veronese "Le Torricelle" because of the numerous towers and fortifications built in this area mainly by the Austrians. A lot of wonderful panoramic views open on a green landscape characterized by bastions, walls and fortifications.

Castel San Pietro

Edit This

In defiance of the manifest defacement, the hill of San Pietro, offers incomparable views of the city and is itself one of Verona's panoramic strongholds.

The vision is complete once you have reached the terrace: from here, in the gaps between the centuries old cypresses, the «veduta» of Verona can be enjoyed in its entirety.

Porto Nuova and the Avenue

Edit This

The main and most representative entrance in Verona is situated immediately out of the Venetian and Austrian walls still sorrounding the old city. The entrance of Verona shows signs of its antique nobility, above all the monumental Porta Nuova, which partly keeps its original structure. It was built by Michele Sanmicheli from 1435 to 1440 and was largely worked over by the Austrians in 1854. From here the wide, lined with trees Corso Porta Nuova leads, with its modern buildings and the suggestive landscape of towers, hills and prealps, directly to the city center.
