Verona has always had a great tradition for good food. In fact, the local noblemen, right from the very beginning, had achieved great fame for their splendid, convivial hospitality and the meals they knew how to offer during memorable receptions. Nowadays, this tradition is in the hands of the restaurant owners and inn-keepers of the province.

They provide an important resource of culinary inspiration, with their choice dishes. Veronese art in the kitchen continues today with the work of "master-chefs", who create or improve on, prepare and "personalize" with a touch of refined good taste, secret receipes or ones that are already famous. Typical dishes: boiled beef with "pearĂ ", sauce (made of bread and pepper), "pastissada de caval", (horsemeat stew), gnocchi (potato dumplings), pasta e fagioli (pasta and beans). Veronese cakes "pandoro di Verona", "natalino" (both are special Christmas cakes), shortbread and "sfogliatine" (special flaky pastry biscuits).
