Budget Travel Ideas in Verona

Edit This

Verona is often seen as one of the most romantic cities in the world, and people travel from all quarters of the globe to visit the city. Its links with Romeo and Juliet mean that it has a regular stream of visitors, and as a consequence, Verona is rather ‘touristy’. It's not always possible to visit this city with a large amount of capital, and so visiting Verona on a budget is necessary. There are a range of ways to save money in Verona, either through cheap flights into the city, budgeting accommodation or by shopping for cheap items in Verona itself. All of these things can be considered by anyone wishing to travel to Verona on a budget.

Finding Budget Travel to Verona

When flying into Verona, budget travel airlines are always a good option, although it probably means that the traveler will land at an airport further removed from his final destination. For instance, Verona can be accessed by a number of airports, including the Catullo Airport, only about 12 km from the city, but most budget airlines will fly travelers to D’Annunzio Airport (sometimes called Verona Brescia Airport) which is some 50 km way from Verona. It would probably be necessary to rent a car to make the journey into Verona, or wherever you might be staying.

Staying in Verona on a Budget

There are some low-budget bed-and-breakfast places, either near the city center, or a little bit further out. The Sommavalle, in the Via Marsala, is just a short walk from the center, and costs about 60 EUR. The Agriturismo Sommavalle is around 4 km away from the town center, and costs 70 EUR. Some mid-range places will also offer single rooms for about 45 EUR, but these will also probably be out of the city center and will require a rental car to reach Verona. The cost of this must be added to the price of the room before any budget can be calculated.

Youth hostels are another option, so long as you don’t mind sharing with strangers, and having to locate the youth hostels before turning in. Several small bed and breakfasts in the area will offer a range of prices, but it's important to remember that car rental will cost about 30 EUR a day. It's up to travelers to weigh the pros and cons of staying further from the city in exchange for somewhat reduced prices.
