In spite of its fine Roman remains, Spoleto will strike you as a largely mediaeval town.
Have a look at all under churches on the website below. It's almost like a history lesson with the great variety from beautifully simple Romanesque to the most ornate Baroque. Perhaps one of the most striking cotrasts is when you click on S. Euphemia with its rounded arches on small doors and then on S Ansano immediatel below it in the list.

The old town of Spoleto is full of Roman sights, such as the amphitheatre, the Roman theatre and the Roman villa from the first century. Some of the twisted streets with buildings forming bridges across them are worth seeing for their own sake.
