When to Go in Montecatini Terme

Edit This

People travel from all around the world to Montecatini Terme. This place has always been known for its many spas and thermal waters, but its international fame grew in the 20th century. Most of the thermal waters are not original; the Grand Duke of Tuscany led a war in the area during which most of the baths were destroyed, but they were basically all rebuilt in the 18th century. Nowadays, almost two million tourists visit Montecatini Terme every year. While it's frequented by tourists all year, during the summer months is when the majority of tourists travel to Montecatini Terme. The crowds force prices to go up everywhere in the town.

Summer

High prices and crowds are normal during summer making it a less than ideal time of year to go to Montecatini Terme. However, the summer season does have beautiful weather, perfect for checking out the famous liberty style architecture of the town as well as its lush gardens and plentiful fountains. Everything is green, the high temperatures stay in the 80s (Fahrenheit) which can, in fact, feel quite hot, but evening temperatures drop to the 60s making a pleasant contrast between day and night. June and July have the least precipitation out of all of the months, you'd be very unlikely to experience a day of rain if in Montecatini Terme during those months. As most people travel to the town to enjoy the thermal waters and spas, it's important to note that these places will be crowded with tourists from around the world during summer, and that they may not be as enjoyable as in other season due to the combination of hot water in hot weather.

Fall and Spring

Rain becomes a common occurrence in fall and in spring, but the actual temperatures are still comfortable enough to walk around town, as long as you take a light jacket and an umbrella. The tourists move out of the area by fall, and still don't arrive by spring, so you can get a more intimate look at life in Montecatini Terme. Everything just seems more authentic and less touristy.

Winter

Winter is probably the best season to go to Montecatini Terme. It is the low tourism season, so their aren't many people and you'll find a lot of deals and discounts on hotels, restaurants, and the thermal pools themselves. Only during Christmas and the New Year does the amount of tourists increase; the rest of the winter is great a time for travel. The coldest months are December and January with highs in the 50s (Fahrenheit) and lows in the 30s. With a warm jacket, the days are still nice for a walk around town, although it does rain quite a lot. The thermal waters are perfect this time of year; there are few people and the contrast between the hot water and the cool air feels spectacular.
