1. Cinque Terre
Cinque
Terre is a collective of five villages that are suspended between the
earth and the sea. Surrounded by green hills and clinging to the cliffs,
this is one of the most un-spoilt areas in the Mediterranean. It is
probably one of the best experiences tourists can get in La Spezia, as
they can learn about the culture of these villages. Visitors can reach
Cinque Terre by either taking a boat trip or hiking through the hills.
This pristine place has been recognized as an important world heritage
site and also a national park.
2. Lucca
This is a
delightful ancient town that can take you back to medieval times. It is a
walled town that comprises of Romanesque monuments, museums and a grid
of winding roads. Here, visitors can find the remarkable Amphitheatre
Piazza and important sights in the town including San Frediano, Torre
Guinigi and Museo Nazionale Guinigi. Opera lovers should make it a point
to visit the 15 th century Casa di Pucini, which is a shrine

Visitors can get a wonderful experience of the old stone castle in the
town. This structure dates way back to the 12 th century,
since it was used to guard the waterway. This aged stronghold has a
gothic architecture where visitors can discover prehistoric remains and
secrets that are hidden in the thick stone. Children can interact with
touch friendly displays and get a first hand view of a dinosaur
skeleton. Visitors can also take a tour of the quaint town center in
Lerici.
4. Castle of San Giorgio
Another must do
activity when holidaying in La Spezia is visiting the Castle of San
Giorgio. This magnificent castle comprises of reinforced walls and
towering battlements. The castle is said to have originated from a watch
tower and was originally built in 1262 by Niccolo Fieschi, an Italian
Cardinal, but it was destroyed by the Genoese in 1273. However, a new
fortification was built in 1371 by the Podesteria. Recent renovations
have been undertaken on the Castle of San Giorgio in order to preserve
this La Spezia maritime relic. The castle also houses the Civic Museum
of La Spezia, making it an important tourist attraction in the city.

Florence
Tourists should also visit the city of Florence.
This can be easily done by simply crossing the 14 th century
Ponte Vecchio Bridge over the Arno River, which is lined with small
fashionable jewelry shops. Some of the attractions to visit in Florence
include the beautiful Cathedral of St. Maria del Fiore and the Piazza
del Duomo. Besides these, there are many other sites that tourists can
visit like the Santa Croce Church, Pitti Palace, Giotto Bell Tower and
the Old Bridge.
