Budget Travel Ideas in La Spezia
Edit ThisLa Spezia budget travel is a great way to see the Ligurian coast without breaking the bank. With so many attractions nearby, including the Cinque Terre and Genoa, La Spezia makes for an inexpensive home base for the traveler.
Transportation
There are two great methods to getting around La Spezia: boat and rail. The Consorzio Marittimo Turistico 5Terre operates a fleet of ferries through the Golfo dei Poeti, including stops in the famous Cinque Terre, as well as surrounding shoreline towns. A round trip ticket will cost you between 23 and 25 euro, depending on the day, and it makes for a much more enjoyable trip than taking a bus or train.
However, trains are reliable and predictable, whereas ferries are at the mercy of the weather. Trains are also faster. For example, a trip to Riomaggiore, the southernmost town in the Cinque Terre, takes a scant 8 minutes, which maximizes your time at your departure point.
Accommodations
Hostels are the cheapest solution when searching for a place to stay in La Spezia. While the quality of hostels varies widely throughout Europe, they tend to be very good in northwest Italy. Costs can be as low as 15 euro per night, although that can change throughout the year. If you're looking for any place to rest after a day of travel, hostels can't be beat for the cost.
Outdoors
Try renting a bicycle for a day and riding along the shoreline. Get lost while wandering the back roads and don't spend a dime on gas.
