Weekly Market in Forte Dei Marmi
Wednesday is the market day of Forte Dei Marmi. You can enjoy the sights of local and foreign tourists shopping for colorful clothes, antiques and other souvenirs that you can take back home. The market is held near the marble fortress in Forte Dei Marmi which was built in 1788.
Fortress Forte Dei Marmi
Your vacation in Forte Dei Marmi won’t be complete if you do not visit the fortress that overlooks the entire town. The fortress also goes for its popular name, The Fortino. It is the most popular landmark in town. In fact, the town was believed to have gotten its name from the marble fortress which was built on the 17th century by Grand duke Pietro Leopoldo. The fortress was built then to protect the town from attacks coming from the sea dealt by Barbarians and pirates.
The Majestic Alpi Apuane
Forte Dei Marmi is situated at the foot of a majestic marble mountain called Alpi Apuane. This mountain is considered as a regional natural park. This mountain is a perfect destination for nature lovers and mountain climbers. The mountain is also home to rare plant species such as the royal fern, which is found only in this region. The mountain also has a rich deposit of marbles which is believed to be one of the reasons how Forte Dei Marmi got its name.

Forte Dei Marmi is considered to have the best beach resorts in all of Italy such as the Acali Di Ugazzi Michela and Vittoria which are frequented by tourists who can afford the luxurious amenities provided by these beach resorts. Forte Dei Marmi is also famous for its topless or nudist beaches, the Santa Maria Beach are one such beach.
The Open Air Theatre
This building is where the famous Giacomo Puccini resided and where most of his works for the opera were made. The “Torre del Lago” is an open theater overlooking the lake where spectators can enjoy the opera Puccini created under the cool summer night and a blanket of stars.
