Day Trips in Forte dei Marmi
Edit ThisForte Dei Marmi day trips offer plenty of outdoor excursions for the Italian traveler. Whether it's exploring the Ligurian coastline or venturing inland towards the Apennine mountains, possibilities for adventure abound.
Cinque Terre
The obvious choice for a hiking trip is to head to one of the 5 towns which comprise the Cinque Terre. Accessible by car via the A12 and also by rail or sea, the green-terraced hills that shoot up from the crystal blue waters provide a unique visual delight. A cost of only 5 euros will get you access to a day's worth of hiking through this national park.
Parco Delle Alpi Apuane
Situated approximately 5 miles inland from Forte Dei Marmi, this park is a nature lover's paradise. Rent a bike from Ciclimaggi on Viale E. Morin and wander the hillsides for some truly stunning views.
Grotta del Vento
This archeological gem, formed some 20 million years ago, is well worth a visit. The wind cave, an underground complex of caverns, is open to tourists year round with the exception of Christmas Day. Choose from 1 of 3 itineraries, each lasting approximately 1 hour. If you have time, you can choose all 3.
Viareggio
Another shoreline town about 5 miles south, Viareggio is a tourist haven in the spring and summer months. Concentrated along the boardwalk, you can find good seafood at a number of restaurants. While most of the beaches are private, there is a small public option in the southern part of town. Every Thursday morning the clothes market opens, and you can find some real bargains.
