The Commune of S. Piero a Sieve is situated in the centre of the Mugello valley, has an area of 36.63 sq km and a population of 3,860 inhabitants.
The town (21m asl) is an ancient medieval village which expanded and gained importance under the Medici family. In the town centre which still retains its ancient appearance, we can find the Palazzo Adami, the Villa di Schifanoia, (formerly a Medici property), and the Pieve di S. Pietro (which dates back to the 11th century and houses a baptismal font by Luca della Robbia and a crucifix attributed to Raffaello da Montelupo). Near the town there is the Villa delle Mozzete (with its large Romantic park).
In the surrounding area we can find the Trebbio Castle, the Convento di Bosco ai Frati and the Fortezza di San Martino, which can also be easily reached on foot along gentle lanes and footpaths.
In the "Monti" area there is an archaeological site which dates back to the 7th and 6th century B.C.
