Edit ThisWhen visiting Florence, Italy you really need to know about Florence transportation because this place is virtually filled with tourists. At certain times of the year, the number of tourists is double the number of locals. Due to Florence’s history and many architectural and cultural landmarks, tourists flock to this place; that is why you need to know the available transportation in order to make the most out of your vacation.
Bus
There are two local public bus transport systems in Florence: the ATAF and the LI-NEA. Tickets and bus passes can be bought at tobacconists, bars and newspaper stands. You can either purchase single tickets or multiple ride passes known as Carta Agile, which could either be 10 or 21 rides, depending on your needs. You should have your bus tickets stamped on board or for multiple ride ticket; you can swipe the card on a machine on board the bus. The main bus station is near the Santa Maria Novella Railway station.
Train
The train station is found in the Northwest portion of the center of Florence, just a mere walking distance from Piazza del Duomo. Train tickets can be bought at the Salone Biglietti or any of the automatic ticketing machines in the area. You have to keep in mind that you need to have your train ticket stamped at the yellow machines before boarding the train, or else you are going to pay a large fine for not doing so. From the station, you can reach Milan in 3-hours and Rome in an hour and 40-minutes.
