Eating Out Intro in Bolzano

Eat ala Cantina Style but with Flair at Bolzano

Certainly you must eat at Bolzano restaurants when visiting this Italian city. Bolzano is an Italian term for the city and it's also called Bozen by the many German inhabitants. The place is unique because it is bilingual - Italian and German are both heavily used here. Bozen is famous for its museum housing the Alpine Iceman named Otzi. Here is one dining place that you must try when visiting this capital city of South Tyrol.

Il Cavallino Bianco

Ristorante Cavallino Bianco is located at Via dei Bottai. It is open Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. in the early hours of morning to serve the hungry diners and curious tourists. On Saturday the restaurant is open until afternoon only, and it's closed on Sunday. The restaurant is also known as Weisses Roessl, its German name. It has both an indoor and outdoor dining area. The interior of the restaurant is wood paneled and the atmosphere in the morning is that of a bustling cantina. In the evening the atmosphere tones down to be a bit more intimate. During lunch, due to the many diners, you have to be ready to share a table with others.

The Food

The food served in the restaurant is exquisite and the helpings are quite large for the price. The polenta is recommended, a chowder made of pureed corn. Another dish is the knodeln, which is a bread dumpling with meat inside. Cost of lunch is from $4.55 to $10 and the dinner menu is around $5.20 to $20 per order with rice.
