Family Travel Ideas in Olbia

Edit This
From castles and “Fairy Towers” to the ancient graves of giants, museums and sunny beaches with transparent waters, Olbia Family Travel has it all.

National Archaeological Museum

Beside Olbia’s beautiful blue seas, this museum displays the ancient treasures of Sardinia including the wrecks of medieval and Roman ships. Concerts are held here on weekends.

Tombs of the Giants and “Fairy Houses”

In nearby Arzachena (about 19 km), you’ll find the prehistoric tombs of giants – so named because of their gigantic stature, dating back to 3000 BC. You’ll also see the Nuraghi Domus de Janas which means “house of the fairies,” which some say are actually tombs carved into rock, while others claim they are the fortified dwellings of the ancient Nuragic people, the earliest inhabitants of Sardinia.

Castello di Pedres

There are several medieval castles in and around Olbia such as Castello di Pedres, just a few kilometers away. Although partly ruined, the castle offers a fabulous panoramic view of the picturesque countryside.

Shore Excursions from Disney Cruise Line

Olbia is one of the ports of call for Disney Cruise Line’s Dreams Unlimited. The best thing is that kids get discounted prices. Amenities on board include night club, spa, and plenty of fun activities for kids. You can make reservations online.

A 45-minute motor coach ride takes you past glamorous villas and the blue sea dotted with the yachts of the rich and famous. Baia Sardinia offers adventurous water sports and lovely beaches. After all, beaches are one of the main reasons you’ve chosen this magical region of Italy.

From Baia Sardinia you carry on in comfort to Porto Cervo where you tour the city by "wheeled" train and discover why the rich and famous like Tom Cruise keep coming back to this place. Shopping is great with brands like Gucci, Prada and Cartier.

Enchanted Train Journey to Gallura

What better way to see the charms of Italy than by an age-old train that took the fancy of the novelist D. H. Lawrence? You board the train from Arzachena and journey through the magnificent woods of the Gallura region, seeing remote locations of great beauty you would not have seen by other means.

The trip takes you to Tempio Pausania, where you walk through the picture postcard city, sample some traditional food, shop for souvenirs and visit a cathedral with 17th century paintings.
