Practical Information in Cagliari
Edit ThisDemographics and Currency Specifics in Cagliari
The following Cagliari practical information will introduce you to the language and money specifics of Cagliari. Hopefully, this information will help you feel more confident while getting around the city.
Demographics
Cagliari is the capital of the island of Sardinia, with one of the largest harbors in the whole Mediterranean, and has a population of about 160,000 residents. However, its metropolitan area is home to more than 400,000 people. The vast majority of the people are Italians, but there are also some minor ethnic groups from East Asia and Europe. Many of them speak Sardinian instead of Italian, and although this is similar to Italian, it has some word differences that may cause confusion. English is spoken widely, but not at a proficient level. However, you will be surely able to get simple information in English without having any problems.
Money
Payments in Cagliari are made in Euro. Euro is the official currency of the country and in many other parts of Europe. Its rate isn’t steady, but is around $1.25 per Euro. Money can be exchanged at various banks, post offices and exchange bureaus called cambios. These establishments usually work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All of them charge a commission fee for the exchange. In bigger supermarkets, restaurants and hotels, you won’t probably need to exchange money, since all major credit cards are accepted. There are a lot of ATMs around as well, so you will be able to withdraw money from your local bank account without a problem.
