The lago d'Orta is one of the most beautiful lakes of Italy. It can compete with the Lago Maggiore without problems. Located on a small island is a nice little town, with cobbled streets where you can walk around in about half an hour.

The town of Orta is very nice as well. There are good restaurants on the waterfront and regular boats to the island.
