Stresa
This old town has a history of royalty and is full of very nice hotels, nature parks and flower gardens to visit. There are villas where you can stay and beautiful benches along the streets where you can relax during the day. You will be able to see villas built as far back as the 1700s.
Baroque Palace
Every Lago Maggiore senior travel excursion should include visiting this magnificent palace surrounded by water. Count Borromeo's family, who own the palace, allow you to tour the place and see all the artwork and numerous fittings inside. Also take a walk around the well kept gardens, where you will see flowers and plants that are not found in many places.
Luino
This town along the coast of a lake is an ideal place to visit. You will find old buildings and ancient churches. In this town you will find some very huge trees along the streets and you can also buy handicrafts from the various stalls and shops. On Wednesdays, be sure to go to the market as you will find people from neighboring countries coming for shopping here. Visit the shores of the lake for a stroll and make sure to take pictures of the beautiful views.
Borromean Islands
A must for every Lake Maggiore senior traveler, these four islands are great places to visit.
Isola Bella is an island where Palazzo Borromeo is located. It has a very beautiful garden with all kinds of flowers and plants. The palace has wonderful collections of art. The underground caves provide for an interesting tour.
Isola Madre is another island where you will find a garden with flora and fauna that are rare. There are some unusual kinds of animals found there. There is a palace dating back to the 1590s which has some interesting furnishings and fittings. Olives are also planted on this island.
Isola deo Pescatori is a
fisherman's island. Check out the village and lives of the fishermen.
Also visit the fish market to see the various kinds of fish available.
The restaurants provide for seafood which is very tasty. Shops along the
village also give you a chance to buy souvenirs to take home.
Intra Town
In this town, you will find buildings built in the 1800s. The town
has many coffee bars where you can enjoy your evening after seeing
the various tourist sites around.
