January

Locarno on Ice

Located in the Piazza Grande, you can skate on this lit ice rink while listening to music. You can enjoy a drink with friends in the Igloo bars and in the evening, you can watch the magical play of lights on the ice sculptures. They host a traditional New Year's Eve party and offer attractions for children.

March

Held from March 24 to the 28, Locarno Festa delle Camelie displays more than 300 camellia species, and the exhibition also feature other events and cultural attractions as well as a market where you can purchase flowers and books.

May

From May 14 to 16, you can attend the Locarno Brocante. This antique fair features dolls, pottery and china, jewels, clothing, books, musical instruments, furniture and so much more.

From May 21 to 24, the International Street Artists Festival takes place in Ascona. You can see jugglers, fire-breathers, clowns, musicians, dancers and actors from around the world. There are hundreds of free exhibitions and is a must see for the whole family.

On May 22, you can attend Notte Bianca (Sleepless night). At this all night event, you can find live music, magic acts, fun fairs, theater events and even free museum entrance and guided tours.

June

Jazz Ascona begins on June 24 and ends on July 4. This event features over 200 concerts from the finest international jazz artists.
The Vallemaggia Magic Blues festival is held from June 30 to August 6 and features national and international bands. A must see for blues aficionados.

July

From July 8 to 18, Locarno welcomes the Moon and Stars Festival. Held on the Piazza Grande, this festival features pop-rock performances by international artists and bands.

On July 22 to 25, Ascona presents the International Horse Riding Competition. Held on the former airstrip, it features jumping and dressage competitions as well as many other activities.

On July 23 and 24, Gola di Ponte Brolla hosts the European Cliff Diving Championship. The best European divers and athletes compete in flying stunts and amazing dives.

On July 22 to 24, Locarno hosts Summernight Dream. The lakeside area is transformed into a huge fair with stands, games, music and entertainment, culminating in an extraordinary fireworks display.

August

From August 4 to 14, Locarno hosts the Film Festival. With several projections under the stars in Piazza Grande, this event is a must see.

From August 31 until October 15, Ascona hosts the Settimane Musicali di Ascona. This classical music festival covers all classical styles, from symphony concerts to chamber music, choirs and single instrument recitals.

October

Held on October 3 to 10, the Chestnut and Autumn fest is held at the Piazza G Motta in Ascona and features a market, music, dance and activities for the whole family.
