San Giuseppe Beach
Ventimiglia has the largest beaches in Liguria and 1 of its beautiful sandy beaches is San Giuseppe. The Ventimiglia Alta hills and the River Roia makes the San Giuseppe beach partly secluded and cut off from the rest of the town, making it a perfect hide away for seniors and retirees. There are beach umbrellas and chairs available for visitors and a huge beachfront restaurant where you can dine in with friends and family.
Battaglia di Fior
The Battaglia di Fior takes place during the month of June, this is an ancient summer event that celebrates the blossoming flower industry of Ventimiglia. There’s a huge parade, which showcases beautiful floats made of fresh flowers. These grand flower floats, together with street dancers and bands roam around the whole town. There are tractors shooting flowers to the crowd and the crowd will then throw back flowers making it looks like a big battles of flowers, thus the festivals name. Seniors will definitely love these colorful and vibrant festivities.
Friday Street Market
One of the major tourist attractions in this town is the Friday Street Market. Stalls are set up from the along the beachfront property of the new town. Tourists and locals from Ventimiglia and nearby towns and cities flock to this street market. Here you can find fresh produce like fruits, vegetables, seafood and meat products, as well as different variety of plants and fresh flowers, cheese, cold cuts, breads, pastries and pastas. There are also food stalls which offer fresh home-cooked Italian and French dishes. This market is a perfect spot for seniors to walk around and so some shopping.
Teatro Di Ventimiglia
This old building was first built in 1900 to showcase creative works from Liguria, Caponi and Antonio. It was then partly damaged during World War II and was revived only in 2007 and has become Teatro Di Ventimiglia. Now it serves as a great venue for different art performances and theater plays. Seniors will enjoy watching popular local performers and visiting international artists.
Hanbury Gardens
The Hanbury Gardens is located in the western part of Ventimiglia.
This is an 18-hectare property, which boasts of vast farmlands and local
Mediterranean vegetation. This magnificent European garden is
considered as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. Seniors will love
the fresh breeze and wonderful sites of vast greenery and colorful
flowers.
