Beaches in Ventimiglia
Edit ThisVentimiglia beaches are positioned on the Mediterranean and provide views of France and Monte Carlo, the trailing end of the Alps on the other side of the Roia River, and the medieval city of Ventimiglia.
Most of the beaches are pebble beaches, which are not as messy as sand beaches but do require proper footwear such as flip flops and perhaps a lounge accessory such as a grass mat. Many of the beaches are free and provide outdoor showers. Beaches are named for the closest landmark.
Roia BeachFor people driving to Ventimiglia by car or bus, Roia Beach is the nearest beach to the highway. The beach is well known to surfers for its high waves and surf, particularly in the winter months. Fishermen also enjoy the outlet of the Roia River, whose current runs in both directions at the outlet.
San GiuseppeAcross the Roia River, the western edge of Ventimiglia has several beaches near the local restaurants. The beaches on the other side of the river are more secluded. The Ventimiglia beaches directly in front of the restaurants require entrance fees.
San Guiseppe Beach
features views of Ventimiglia Alta, or the medieval portion of
Ventimiglia, which looms on the hillside.
The one sandy beach in Ventimiglia, Le Calandre is secluded and beautiful. It is popular for cookouts and bonfires and was once the surfers' beach.
Il BrigatinoThis beach is named after the nearby restaurant. It is popular among young families due to its protected area.
Kaly HotelOn the far eastern side of Ventimiglia is the Kaly Hotel Beach. It is
close to the Nervia River and the neighboring town of Camporosso. Views
include Monte Carlo and France. The beach is well-liked among
snorkelers.
Not to be left out, man's best friend is allowed on one of Ventimiglia's beaches, between the Roia Beach and the Sirena Restaurant.
Balzi RossiJust a short distance east of Ventimiglia is Balzi Rossi, or "Red
Rocks." It is at the edge of Liguria and close to the border with
France. It has a rugged coastline and hardly a beach. But for those who
grow restless on a towel or grass mat all day, Balzi Rossi provides the
views and cries out to be wandered. There are also caves and a museum
nearby. There is a restaurant of the same name for those who grow hungry
during the trip.
