Varettela valley is famous for its caves, housing remnants of prehistoric times. Although not all caves are open to the public, the few that are accessible even show human hand- and footprints from Neanderthals on their walls.

The anthropological Museo Preistorico della Val Varatella is located at the beginning of the cave area and offers a good insight into prehistorical times. Besides that, the area is known for its olive cultivation.
