Chiavari was inhabited since remote ages: several remains of a huge pre-Roman Ligurian Necropolis (8th – 7th century) , situated near the mouth of the Rupinaro stream, have been discovered during the Fifties and Sixties and are now preserved in the Municipal Archaeologic Museum , in the Costaguta Rocca Palace at Chiavari.
