A municipality located in the hinterland of

Finale Ligure, on the southern side of Monte

Alto (956 meters or 3137 feet). The township of

Feglino is situated on the floor of the Aquila

valley, while Orco is perched on a ridge, in a

panoramic position. A possession of the Del

Carretto, who built a castle there, it was ruled

by Spain from the second half of the sixteenth

century until 1713, when it was acquired by the

republic of Genoa. A few remains of the walls

and tower of the medieval castle of Orco still stand on a crag near the town. The nearby

church of San Lorenzino was built in the

twelfth to fourteenth century and has a

fourteenth-century campanile with two rows of

two-light windows. The church of San Lorenzo

at Feglino was renovated in the baroque era,

while the shrine of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice

dates from 1874. Surrounded by woods, the

terraced farmland produces fruit, flowers and

vegetables.
