Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeAn agricultural center spread out over the
Pennavaire valley, it is located on the southern
side of Monte Galero (1708 meters or 5604
feet) and faces the steep slopes of Monte Peso Grande (1092 meters or 3583 feet). The valley,
divided between the provinces of Imperia,
Cuneo and Savona), contains numerous caves
that were inhabited, either permanently or
seasonally, from the end of the Epigravettian
period (about 9000 years ago) up until the
Roman era. The finds made in those of the
Savona region are conserved in the Civico
Museo Inguano at Albenga. The area was a fief
of the marchesi Del Carretto of Balestrino, who
had a castle at the locality of Vignoletto, in an
excellent strategic position. It is now in ruins.
In 1202 the marchesi signed a pact with the
republic of Genoa that remained in force until
1735, when the fief was placed under the rule
of the kingdom of Sardinia. The parish church
of San Giovanni Battista dates from the
seventeenth century, while the shrine of the
Madonna di Curagna was originally the
principal church in the valley. The area has
pleasant agricultural scenery, characterized by
woods and pastures.
