A rural center inland of Pietra Ligure, on the left bank of the stream of the same name. A possession of the bishops of Albenga in the tenth century, it passed to the marchesi Del Carretto of Finale in 1142 and from then on followed their historical fortunes. The economy in this mountainous area is based chiefly on agriculture and forestry.
