Edit ThisLiguria was an important region for the passages of the ancient
pilgrims and for the modern tourists on the way from Compostela, from
Provence, and going down to Rome. The pilgrims - and now the modern
tourists - were generally walking along the coast, where people used to
live, from Ventimiglia , to Albenga which churches form one of the most
ancient centers of christianity and where joining people coming from
the mountains or the north of Europe was coming down through valleys
like the Arroscia valley. From Ceriale a point on the Via Julia Augusta

to The Cinque Terre and to Rome.
