Festivals in Genoa
Edit ThisAn Insight into Popular Genoa Festivals
Known mainly for its scenic beauty and historic monuments, Genoa has a rich cultural tradition reflected among the many Genoa festivals. The city celebrates a wide range of festivals, including those with literary and artistic significance.
International Poetry Festival of Genoa
Held over a period of nearly 10 days in the first half of June, the International Poetry Festival of Genoa is counted among the most prestigious of cultural events in Europe. It is also among Genoa’s most traditional festivals. The venue is usually the historic surroundings of Palazzo Ducale. During the last few days of the festival, some impromptu parties are arranged along the nearby beach.
Festival of Primavera
Celebrated in the first week of April, this festival is essentially an exhibition of Italian arts and crafts. Nearly every town in Genoa is lined with stalls showcasing various items which exude the Italian sense of style. This includes furniture items, clothing, wines and even stylistic camping equipment. Further, there are plenty of stalls dedicated to the recreation of children, making Primavera ideal for family vacationers.
Mediterranean Music Festival
This is among the most popular music festivals celebrated in Genoa. Unlike other Genoa festivals that celebrate contemporary music, this music festival is themed around exploring the true essence of traditional Mediterranean music. The usual venues include historic places like the districts of Old Town and Porto Antico. An essential part of the festivities are numerous workshops and conferences which help visitors to understand the unique nature of Mediterranean music.
