area has an interesting history and this is demonstrated in a number of
museums. Some of the best for viewing the culture and history of the
area include the following.
Diano Marina Civic Museum
The Civic Museum is located in the Villa Ardissone, also known as
the Palace of the Park, near Via Aurelia. The museum has 10 rooms with
various exhibits which show the history of the area through the ages,
and include displays of pre-Roman and Roman artifacts found in Diano
Marina. Other rooms include displays of the ancient cults of the area
and also exhibit the wares and goods which were traded with other parts of Italy and the world. There are also exhibits
dedicated to one of the famous sons of Diano Marina, Andrea Rossi. The
building in which the museum is located was constructed in the early
19th century and is worth viewing. The entrance fee is Euro 3 and the
facility is open from 9:00am to 12:30pm and 3:00pm to 5:30pm, every day except Sunday.
The Olive Tree Museum
This museum is located at Garessio 11/13, Imperia and is an interesting and educational facility which is dedicated to the olive tree. Founded in 1992, it presents many facets of the 6,000 year history of the olive tree and the impact it has played on the social and economic life of Italy. The exhibits contain many artifacts relating to the olive trees themselves, and also the olive oil business in the region, showing details such as the trade routes of the oil around the world. The museum is open every day except Sunday from 9:00am to 12:30pm and 3:00pm to 6:30pm, with entry being free.
