Eating Out in Rome

Tre Scalini

Tre Scalini

Rome, pasta, wine, pizza. Here, there is no need to search for restaurants. Rome restaurants are everywhere! You will find small and cheap but nice trattorie, osterie and ristoranti. Prices for Rome restaurants, even in the centre, are reasonable and the quality remains of a fair standard. Many nice places are to be found in the Centro Storico, along Via Cavour and around Stazione Termini. Similarly, you can eat cheaply in the Borgo district around the Vatican.

Trastevere is Rome’s traditional restaurant ghetto – touristy now, but still the home of some fine and reasonably priced Rome restaurants. Testaccio is also a popular evening place with a good selection of restaurants and pizzerias. Of course there is a huge selection of both Italian and international restaurants, but we live for the "good in Italy" version and warmly recommend the local cuisine.

Spirito di Vino

This restaurant is recommended by several guides and rightly so.

The owner, Romeo (who waited on us), his wife (who is a scientist when she's not making magic in the kitchen) and their son Francesco (the sommelier) have a gem of a restaurant just a few blocks off Via Trastevere.

Everything we had to eat was fantastic, as was the wine. And the diners around us - some of whom we got to know over the course of our three-hour meal - seemed equally impressed.

Make certain you make reservations. The restaurant is small. You might also want to ask more..

Ristorante Abruzzi

A best buy. Located about mid-way between the Trevi Fountain and Trajan's Column. Small restaurant. Run by same family for all of the 35 years we've been going there. Quite inexpensive. Cannelloni Abruzzi the specialty, but everything well prepared. (Get there early for the specialty; they run out early!)

Indian food reflects influences that have shaped its particular style of cooking. The Mughals, brought with them exotic spices and dried fruits and nuts, which they combined with meat, vegetables, milk and cream to create rich Mughlai dishes. These are amongst the finest in Indian regional cuisine.

The Sitar Indian Restaurant does bring all this to you. The trademarks of the good Indian cuisine are fully brought to you at this restaurant with the food being of excellent quality.  The service is extraordinarily good with customers more..
