When to Go in Udine
Edit ThisAny time of the year, Italy has something to offer for everyone and
Udine is certainly no different. However, weather plays a strong role
in when to visit, along with the cultural celebrations and religious
festivities held in Udine throughout the year. Knowing when to travel
to Udine is half the battle.
Summer Temperatures
Udine's summer is hot and sunny, but comfortable with temperatures ranging from 25-30 degrees Celsius.
Summer Festivals and Markets
Summer is filled with festivals and street markets throughout Italy,
and Udine follows suit. It's not recommended to visit during
August. Besides the fact August 15 is the Italian holiday Assumption Day
and shops, markets and many businesses close with celebrations held
the day prior and after the holiday. But many businesses shut down for
the entire month of August, as many Italians take vacation during this
time. Regardless, summer is the peak growing season, so visitors enjoy
the delectable fresh fruits and vegetables available.
Autumn and Winter Travel
Autumn and winter in Udine are colder. October brings sunny crisp days while November tends to offer rain and December snow.
Cuisine
Autumn is the best time to experience cuisine as the season
brings fresh mushrooms, including truffles. Many restaurants feature
the delicacy in exclusive dishes throughout the fall. Wine and olives
are also harvested in the fall.
Autumn/Winter Business Hours
Keep in mind, many museums and attractions have shorter hours of
operation. In spite of this, many cultural events begin to take place
such as the theater, opera and food festivals. Udine
holds a wonderful wine and food festival in September, and a fantastic
Christmas market in December.
Autumn/Winter Brings Cheaper Prices
To top it off, there is less tourism so many visitors will find
fewer crowds in restaurants and attractions. This also means
accommodations are more reasonably priced.
Spring Weather
Spring in Udine can be quite pleasant, although visitors will find
much rain, sometimes even snow during early spring. In April or May,
temperatures average 20 degrees Celsius. Warm enough for outdoor dining
to be enjoyed.
Spring Hours
With longer daylight hours, more touring time can be taken advantage of.
Spring Accommodations and Celebrations
Accommodation deals can still be found, with the exception during
Holy Week and May 1. These are not the only two celebrations that take
place. Easter Monday, Liberation Day held on May 25, and Festa Della
Repubblica on June 2 are all National holidays held in the spring. One
of Udine’s most popular artistic celebrations is the Far East Film Festival held in April.
Spring Outdoor Events
In Udine, outdoor concerts begin to take place in spring. Additionally, artichokes, asparagus and spring lamb are foods that are found sold in markets, and a main ingredient in Italian cuisines.
