Visa: Most tourists will not require a visa for entry so long as they have a return ticket and a passport with empty pages that is valid for at least 90 days after scheduled departure from Italy. Entry stamps are good for 90 days of visa-free travel.
Banking: There are plenty of banks that operate regular hours within Udine. There you can exchange foreign currency (US Dollars are most widely accepted) or traveler's cheques. ATMs are widely found around the city. They accept most major credit and debit cards, including Visa, MasterCard and Cirrus. Most large establishments will also accept credit cards.
Airports: The nearest airport is Friuli-Venezia Giulia Airport, which is approximately an hour away. Regular buses operate between the city and the airport.
Transportation: There is a train station in Udine. Trains run regularly to and from Trieste (1 hour and 10 minutes), Venice (2 hours) and Gorizia (30 minutes). There is no metro line in Udine. Buses run regularly between Udine and Trieste (1 hour 15 minutes), Aquileia (1 hour), Grado (1 hour 15 minutes) and Lignano Sabbiadoro (1 hour 30 minutes). Expect to pay between 3 and 10 Euros one-way for the train or bus.
Tipping: Tipping is not the norm in Italy, but it is appreciated (especially from tourists). If you're in a restaurant, check the bill first for a service charge. If there isn't one, leave a 5-10% tip. If there is a service charge, you can leave a few Euros on the table for good service. Taxis can be tipped up to 5% and porters or housekeepers can be tipped a few Euros for their service.
