Getting Around in Udine
Edit ThisDriving around Udine
Driving around Udine is quite easy. Some popular landmarks used by locals are the Piazza delle Liberta (Liberty Square, the main square of Udine, where the Castle of Udine can also be found), the Patriarcale Palace (this palace houses both the Diocesan Museum and the Tiepolo's Gallery) and the Loggia del Lionello (municipal building). We recommend that you apply for an international driver's license before you travel to Italy because it will make your car rental much easier.Watch out for Mopeds
Mopeds are the preferred method of transportation by Italians in urban areas. International visitors to Italy may not be used to driving around mopeds, and might get nervous as all mopeds head towards the front of the line of the cars waiting at a red light. When waiting at a red light, it's best to let the mopeds go first. Also, watch out for mopeds when making turns.
Walking around the Historic Center
When visiting the historic center of Udine, it's best to do so by walking. Finding parking can be a hassle, particularly during rush hours when locals are heading to or returning home from work. Via Mercatovecchio is the main street in Udine's historic center. There you will find plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and historic sites. When visiting the historic center, you should visit the Loggia di San Giovanni and the Cathedral of Udine.
