Museums in Rimini
Edit ThisRimini is located on the Adriatic Sea in Italy and is the most famous of the seaside resorts on the Adriatic Riveria. It has a long history and much of this can be viewed in the many museums in the city. The following provides details of some of the best of these.
City Museum
This is the main museum in Rimini and has many displays showcasing the interesting 2000 year history of the city. There are 36 different galleries which house many works of art and historical artifacts which are on view to illustrate the history and cultural development of Rimini and the surrounding area. The museum is located on the Via Tonini 1 and is open Tuesday to Sunday. Opening hours are generally 8.30-12.30 and 17-00-1900, although on Sunday these change to 10.00-12.30 and 15.00-19.00. Ticket prices are around Euro 5.
Federico Fellini Museum
Fellini was a famous Italian movie director who was born in Rimini and also set some of his movies in the city. The museum has displays and exhibits covering all parts of his life and career from his early days to when he was creating some of his most memorable films. The museum is located on Via Clementini 2 with entry being free. It is open in the evening from 16.00-19.00 Tuesday to Friday and 10.00-12.00 and 16.00-19.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.
Gambalunga Library
This library is located on Via Gambalunga 27 and the building which house it was built between 1610 and 1614. It contains over 200,000 books including rare manuscripts and periodicals from as early as the 1600’s. As well as the impressive collection of books the building also houses a special children’s library, the cineteca and also puts on many exhibitions. The Library is open Monday to Friday 08.00-19.00 and Saturday 8.00-13.00 with entry being free. Rimini is a beautiful location and the city has many fine museums. The ones mentioned above will provide a visitor with the chance to view some of the culture and history of the city.
