Museums in Bologna
Edit ThisMuseo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna
With an astounding collection of contemporary and ancient art, this dedication to Italy’s many cultural movements will impress. Explore methods of brush-strokes and photography, gaining unique insight into the influences of the past. Political and economical strife is witnessed in color. It’s to be learned. Guests should note that the hours change, however, and planning for a visit may be required. The museum is closed on Monday, open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, and is available the rest of the week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m..
Il Duomo and Duomo Museum
This breathtaking cathedral may often be forgotten in the wake of more famous Bologna museums, but it is not to be ignored. Discover iconic imageries and gilded corners. Let the significance of religion and the past combine. And take advantage of the thinning crowds to stare as long as you please. It’s an architectural marvel. Tickets can be obtained without reservation, and tours are easily secured.
Museo Civico Archeologico
No adventure to Bologna would be complete with a visit to this archaeological wonder. Located in the Palazzo Galvani, this building is stuffed with antiquities and artwork. Explore corridor after corridor of Greek, Roman, Egyptian and, of course, Italian treasures. Since its beginnings in 1881, it has amassed a truly original collection. Guests will be pleased; even more so with its free admission and daily openings (except for Monday).
Bologna Museums represent the spirit of Italy. Don’t forsake them for the thrills that surround.

Pinacoteca Nazionale
Edit ThisCollection of paintings coming from neighbouring convents and monasteries. Find your way from medieval times (with the Giotto alterpiece) through the Renaissance to the Baroque period (don't miss out on the Carracci collection, the famous Bolognese masters). The Pinacoterca was founded at the beginning of the 19th century.
Due to problems with the staff half of the museum is open in the morning and the other half in the afternoon (summer 2005).
