Budget Travel Ideas in Naples
Edit ThisSave Money on your Trip to Naples
Naples budget travel is not an impossible thing to do. Except for an attractive tourist destination, Naples is a regular Italian city and has both cheap and expensive places.
When to Visit
Visiting the city at the appropriate time is the first step of cutting the costs of your trip. Naples is a year-round travel destination, but all tourists on tight budgets should consider visiting the city from April to mid-May or from mid-September to October. These are the so-called low seasons, when hotel rates are 3 times lower with fewer tourists around.
Getting There
European travelers can easily save over $100 by using a bus or a train instead of a plane to get to Naples. Unfortunately, there are no direct intercontinental flights to Naples, so if you’re coming from another continent, you will need to take a flight to Rome and then take a bus from Rome to Naples to save on costs.
Local Transportation
Saving money on local transportation is also possible and will help spare your budget. Once in Naples, use the public transportation network instead of taxis, and you will cut your transportation costs by up to 50 percent. The transportation network is well-developed and served by buses, trams and trolleys. They are all clean, safe and comfortable, so there is nothing wrong in using them instead of taxis.
Accommodation
A good thing about Naples is its wide choice of hotels. There are many nice 2-star family hotels, where you can safely stay and sleep for as low as $20 to $25 per night. Zara and Casanova are two of the better-run family hotels in the city. There are even cheaper, 1-star hotels, but they are not as clean and comfortable.
Places to Eat
Eating on budget is also possible in Naples. There are many low-priced supermarkets where you can buy some food as the cheapest option. However, if you still want to eat out, there are some nice cheap restaurants. For example, having a meal at establishments like Pizzeria Sorbillo or Pizzeria Lombardi will cost you less than $10, but you will still enjoy some of the best pizza in Naples.
