Naples offers a lot of accommodation - from a filthy and noisy hotel hole to a first class suite with sea view. You have to know what you want.

As soon as you arrive at the central station, hotel hawkers pretending being tourist officials will try to lure you to one of the hotels nearby. This is a dissuading choice to find a room in our opinion. The area around the station is dotted with hotels, so you won't need a tout to find a room. What you should do is to make sure to have a look at the offered room before approving. You will lots of cheap hotels (not always recommendable) around Piazza Garibaldi, not badly placed for the rest of town. Another - probably nicer - area to find comfortable accommodation is the area around the university, between Piazza Dante and the Duomo.

The Mergellina area at the far end of the waterfront (served by subway and trolley) commands outstanding views of Vesuvius and Capri, but ranges from expensive to a lot more expensive.
