Top 5 Must Do's in Ischia
Edit ThisIschia must do's is a list of things which you absolutely should not miss while you are at this hilly resort. It is said that Emperor Tiberius preferred to be here than in Rome. When you are here you will figure out why it was that way. Beautiful cliffs overhanging the sea, along with thermal spas and excellent beaches is what Ischia is. If that is not a recipe for a great vacation, then we don’t know what is.
1.Fumaroles on the Maronti beach
These steaming geysers and natural springs need to be experienced naturally. They are available in specialized spas and swimming pools and that can be tried, too. But if you don’t try the natural springs you are definitely missing out. These springs have been studied by scientists and are known for their therapeutic value. Those interested in mythology will be interested to know that these various springs are dedicated to various Gods in the Greek Mythology. Casamicciola, Apollo; Lacco Ameno was to Hercules; Citara to Venus Citarea; and Barano to Nitrodi Nymps. If you are geologically interested, you can find out a lot about the volcanic nature of Ischia through these springs.
2. Castello Aragonese
This is at Ischia Ponte and is definitely one of the most historical places to visit. It is an imposing structure and once you get to the top it offers some incredible views of Ischia and the sea. It has a few places to eat as well. It even has a very interesting museum.
3. La Mortella
This is an amazing landscape garden which was created by William Walton, the famed composer. It has actually been created inside a stone quarry at the foot of Monte Zaro. There are a variety of plant species here and it has interesting features such as the Thai Sunhouse. It also has pools and cascades along with a steel fountain.
4. Museo Archeologica Pithecusae
Ischia has history almost dating back to 8th Century BC, when it was first inhabited by Greeks. If you need to know about that history, then the place to be is this museum at Lacco Ameno. You will see a lot of archeological finds and many interesting stories to go with them.
5. Water Sports
With a coastline of over 20 kilometers, there is a lot of fun to be had in the water. There are a lot of options which are available. You can go angling, boating, and even diving. Of course diving and the huge cliffs throw up really scary combinations, but you can be certain there are a lot less dangerous options.
