Cruises in Capri
Edit ThisPeople are just drawn to the beautiful Isle of Capri in the Campania region of Italy. It looks like two mountains of rock but the closer you get the more you will see it is a picturesque island with stores to shop and sites to see. How do you get there? Well, by boat of course.
Different Cruise Lines
Several cruise lines include Capri in some of their voyages. Royal Caribbean has several with two starting in Barcelona Spain. The Voyager of the Sea and Splendor of the Sea both have 7 night trips and Capri is included in the itinerary. Prices for these trips run from $500 to $1800. Vision of the Seas starts at Venice and has a stop in Capri. This trip runs $1000 to $3000.
Princess Lines have several cruises that go to Venice or Naples and then you can take their short excursions that allow you to visit Capri and a few other sites at a price not included in the price of the cruise. Princess Line Mediterranean Cruises usually go 7 days and cost from $2000 to $4000. The shore cruises visit Naples, Pompeii, Capri and Sorrento.
Excursions Offered
While in Capri you can see the Blue Grotto, and cliffs of Mount Tiberio and Mount Solaro up close and personal. You will ride into the Marina Grande where fishermans’ homes dot the landscape in a collage of color. Some of the houses are perched on the cliffs of the mountains that make up the island. Then travel to La Piazzetta the main square of Capri. Here you will find charming shops and sidewalk cafes. You can also tour the Villa San Michelle that is full of antiques and the gardens are exquisite. The Gardens of Augustus founded by Caesar Augustus have beautiful horticultural displays that are worth going to see and the area provides you with incredible views of the bay. You can see the off shore rock formations of Faraglioni from here as well. Prices for these shore excursions run about $300 and include the boat ride to the isle and all other transportation while you are there.
Cruise Season
Capri is only accessable during the summer months and when it is
open watch out for the crowds. It gets wild in the area where shops are
situated and also bear in mind that you will probably have to stand in
line to get back to the ship.
Beaches
Don’t plan on spending the day at the beach in Capri as the beaches are rocky. The only good sandy beach is near Marina Piccola.
